Ordinance Survey The photo was taken from the grounds of the Railway Hotel, subsequently The Great Sothern Hotel and now the malton Hotel.

Comment? The only thing that strikes me is the bench, facing the shrubs. Shouldn't it face the other way, so you don't get to look at the bushes? Look out over the courtyard instead...

Wikipedia says the Great Southern Railway operated from 1925 to'45. It is perhaps the Great Southern and Western Railway, operating from 1844 to 1924. That was a broad-gauge railroad (1.6m 5'3" between the rails). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Southern_and_Western_Railway

That bench will be used to look at a garden full of flowers looking at those seedlings.

Foxglove The granite posts are still there but the linking chains are gone a while.. I remember them being there in the 70's.... the 1970's

I love this one. We're usually over the other side of the Green (top of Grafton Street, near the Shelbourne, etc.).

Foxglove Looking the stone posts on the street view, some ones present day are cleaner that others. But all retain top cast/forged steel fitting for the chain. Modern copies? James Dobson &Co are listed in 1891 Kellys Post Office directory as Upholsterers and Decorators 20 Maddox St and 114 St Stephens Green. A sunny day and not a dog to be seen.
