Here is James P. Holland at the same parade. The New York Times says he was the Grand Marshall for the New York City parade. This gentleman is wearing a bow tie, and Holland is not in his labeled photo. Willard Small was the Grand Marshall at the Newark New Jersey parade.

The parade took place on Monday, September 1, 1913. Turnout was low, a result attributed to prosperity, which led many workers to leave town to enjoy a three-day weekend. Here's the story in Tuesday's New York Times: query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9A05E6DB123FE633A...

Here are James P. Holland and this man in the same photograph. Everybody gets to be a Marshal -----

James P. Holland of the Eccentric Firemen's Union of New York City, elected President of the New York State Federation of Labor in 1916.

I created an entry for him in Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_P._Holland 5,000 LABORITES OFFER FINE PARADE; Marching Line Much Smaller Than Expected, but Splendidly Organized -- Few Women Out. Thank you pennylrichardsca and Richard Arthur Norton for the additional information on James P. Holland. We will add it to the photo description when we reload the database.
