Roger C. Sullivan (1861-1920) was the first Democratic boss of Cook county (IL) – a position he held for 25 years. After a short, three-year break, here's some info on "J.P.C. Talbot" ; ) J.P.C. Talbot s/b J.F.C. Talbott J. F. C. Talbott (Joshua Frederick Cockey Talbott) also known as J. Fred C. Talbott (1843-1918), also known locally as "Uncle Fred", was a Democratic politician in Baltimore, Maryland. The former Maryland State Insurance Commissioner, leader of the Baltimore County Democrats and Congressman from Baltimore worked with Roger Sullivan during the 1912 Democratic Convention (which was being held in Baltimore) to support a conservative agenda. [1] [2] Talbott joined the Confederate Army in 1864, and served as a Private in the Maryland Calvary for the duration of the war. Admitted to the bar in 1866 he practiced in Baltimore County. He was prosecuting attorney for Baltimore County 1871-1875, a delegate to the Democratic National Convention for several years, and a twelve-term U.S. Congressman for the Second Congressional District of Maryland. [3] [4] In 1869, Fred Cockey Talbott married the former Laura Bell Cockey, daughter of the wealthy and influential John G. Cockey, president of the Tovvson National Bank in Maryland. [5] [6] He died while in office in 1918 and is buried in Cockeysville, Baltimore County, Maryland. [7] The USS J. Fred Talbott (DD-156) was named for him in 1918. Talbott was a member of the Naval Affairs Committee for 25 years and had worked unceasingly for a strong and modern Navy. [8]
