Hot Springs (Ark.), fire Sept, 1913 - wreck of gas plant (LOC)

On 5 September 1913, fire destroyed sixty blocks of Hot Springs, Arkansas. It started in a laundry and was blown by winds into the fashionable residential area along Malvern Avenue. A sanitarium, a high school, a stylish hotel, a courthouse, and a Methodist church were all destroyed in the blaze. Amazingly, no lives were lost in the fire; but about 2500 people were left homeless.
