the angel is from the top of the South African War memorial in the Haymarket. This photo is from 1975 when she was taken away for restoration during the building of the Tyneside Metro station below. Now fully restored (with a new body and fibreglass wings!) she holds a sword in the left hand and a laurel garland in the right. In the background are the Plough public house, which closed in 1976, and the ABC Haymarket cinema. The whole block was demolished in 1985

Is this the final paint color? Or just some kind of primer kote?

No, it's a zinc dichromate primer. On the interiors of it was often a pea green color. Quite toxic I think , but good a protecting the metal.

This series of pictures are B-24 Bombers and I think at this point in the process, we are seeing the final color of that front cowling as it is called. Lots of these planes went out the door with bare metal on the exterior parts. I could be wrong.

Greenhorns: In all actuality, WWII planes' paint jobs final touch were often applied with "Kilroy was here," or some such personalized, decompensating brush stroke. 10-4, over and out. Pete Moss musicians, please to be making the noises, now.

Airplane Engines now replaced by Jet Engines..the latest news has been about "missing parts"..or installing "broken" parts..//??//War&Peace.

Consolidated Gas Company (now Consolidated Edison) headquarters, at 15th and Irving. Photograph is from construction between 1911-1914. They're installing girders after the surrounding buildings were completed, to raise this structure another six floors. Probably 1913? "By this time, however, the firm had decided that a 12-story building would be inadequate. More land was purchased to the east, and Hardenbergh was requested to design and 18-story building for the entire site. There was no problem in constructing the structures for the east and west sides of the lot, but the original 12-story central section did not have a structural system that could support extra floors. The solution was to build the end wings and then construct girders between them and suspend the additional stories."

The date is visible along the top right side in reverse: 8/4/13 (Aug.4, 1913)
