The full title in the catalogue is School treat, Fanny Mason, 1904. Group of school girls dressed in pinafores holding floral bouquets older girl holds larger bouquet, perhaps winner of competition. There is a Fannie Mason aged 10 in the 1901 census of Clonbrock, a farmer's daughter. From the title, Fanny is in the photo holding a bouquet, but not the oldest with the largest bouquet. I would guess the girl smiling in the middle?

The catalogue has another shot, from the back of the crowd, of the judging: CLON927

Perhaps one of our horticultural contributors could identify the season from the (wild?) flowers. In any case, nothing to do with a Marian devotion, I suspect

Ukrainians harvesting in Separator, Saskatchewan

Never heard of Separator, Saskatchewan. Are you sure? Looks like a Case steam traction engine.
  • Provincial Archives of Alberta said:
No, I'm not sure! Often we have nothing more to go on than the information that was provided on the photo. I'll do some more digging and see what I can find.

Hello Archives, I checked Bill Barry's Geographic Names of Saskatchewan, THE book on SK place names. Separator is not listed. Maybe the separator reference is about a threshing machine, sometimes called a separator.

I'll see what I can find on the original record. Perhaps it is simply a transcription error that was never corrected. Thanks for the tip!
