Possibly related to: query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9501E0DA1630E233A... BURNS MEN HOLD TWO AS GUNMEN; Trail Pair from Albany to Fonda, N.Y., and Arrest Them as "Gyp" and "Lefty Louie." August 27, 1912, Tuesday William J. Below see link to Wikipedia article about Gyp, the Blood also known as Harry Horowitz. Horowitz and his gang were convicted and executed, apparently they were believed to be acting at behest of NYPD Police Lieutenant Charles Becker, and there are photos in this Flickr series of Becker going to Sing Sing also. (see tag for Becker). They killed Herman Rosenthal. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyp_the_Blood

Presumably Louie ad Gyp are the same as in www.flickr.com/photos/library_of_congress/2422667831/

NYTimes article of 9/18/12 talks about an investigation into who was helping conceal Louie and Gyp in an apartment at 765 Woodward Avenue in Brooklyn. Apparently some associates rented 3 apartments and furniture for each and L and G were arrested in one of these hide outs. They came to Woodward Ave after they returned from the Catskills (Parksville) where they had been previously. The newspaper reports suggest that there were several special investigations going on at once because of articles in the newspaper suggesting that some police officers were suppressing evidence (letters), perhaps because they were somehow involved in the murder. As complicated as "The Sopranos"!

September 18, 1912, Wednesday Justice Goff sitting as a Magistrate in charge of a John Doe inquiry, and Acting District Attorney Frank Moss continued their efforts yesterday to discover whether or not important evidence connected with the arrest of "Gyp the Blood" Horowitz and "Lefty Louie" Rosenberg had been suppressed by the police.
