    This was taken during Clark's 1st season with the Cincinnati Reds. Note the last name etched is incorrect: Griffith is the correct name.

    Clark Griffith won 20 or more games seven times and collected 237 wins while posting a 3.31 career earned average from 1891 through 1914. Clark only averaged 2.5 strikeouts per game but brilliantly changed speeds and had a great sinkerball. He was nicknamed "The Old Fox "

    It is Hilltop Park, but Hilltop Park was home of the Highlanders (Yanks-AL). Cinci never played the Highlanders while Griffith was with them. Not sure if the Giants had to play a few games at Hilltop. Any ideas why he'd be there?

    The 5th Light Horse Regiment was raised in Brisbane in September 1914, entirely from men who had enlisted in Queensland, and became part of the 2nd Light Horse Brigade. Sailing from Sydney on 21 December 1914, the regiment disembarked in Egypt on 1 February 1915. The light horse were considered unsuitable for the initial operations at Gallipoli, but were subsequently deployed without their horses to reinforce the infantry. The 2nd Light Horse Brigade landed in late May 1915 and was attached to the 1st Australian Division. The 5th Light Horse played a defensive role for most of the campaign but was involved in several minor attacks. It left the peninsula on 20 December 1915. Although I could not find the matching name and photograph it could still be some starting point info.

    Date is 4/10/1913. According to www.baseball-almanac.com/prz_cww.shtml this "opening day" game was the first of six baseball games he attended that season, the only one wher he threw out the first pitch. The Senators beat the Yankees 2-1.
