The Sydney Morning Herald Wednesday 22 August 1894 THE GRETA COLLIERIES. GRETA, TUESDAY. Great anxiety is felt regarding the result of the tendering for the Greta collieries property. Tenders closed to-day. A large number of miners are still here in the hope of the pit starting work again.

An early photograph, said to have been taken in 1890, shows a light saddle tank steam locomotive shunting at Greta Colliery "B" shaft sidings. This locomotive marshalled trains for despatch to the NSW Government Railways. This locomotive was an "0-6-0" wheeled type. (Author's note: This locomotive appears to me to have been an "Avonside" built vehicle). After Greta Colliery closed in the early 1900's, this locomotive was purchased by the Portland Cement Company Limited and transferred to their sidings.
