Again thanks to megazoom at full blast, you can just see the telegraph wire from that single (!) thingy on top of the pole, stretching down to another thingy above Irwin's Leather Store which is also the Post Office. Obvious really, but fascinating that such detail is there on the glass negative.

Apologies for veering off topic - although not too far - but Helena Zinkham, head of the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress, gave us all a lovely compliment on the LOC's blog. She's been involved in Flickr Commons from when it was just a twinkle in George Oates' eye. Anyway, Helena says:

"... For example, in the National Library of Ireland’s photostream, delightful conversations develop as a group pieces together the story for each photograph..."

I think we're the only ones who get a special mention. :)
