To provide a name to a face, this is Ellen Cox pictured in May 1946 for the Edmonton Bulletin. The seamstress, who lived at 10542 133rd Street, is engaged in making a pair of white shorts for the Dutch Marine Corps.

I bet the women in fancy hats and dressed in black are there to show support for the 'common' women who are doing all the work. Not sure I worded that right but it does seem like an odd picture to me. I also wonder where that particular Berlin is.

The New York Times on December 17, 1914, reports but one story of many of relief work efforts carried out on both sides of the Atlantic. "A hearty reception awaits the American Christmas expedition which will reach Berlin tomorrow from the Christmas ship Jason. "The American Kitchen will make gifts to 200 women and 200 children, ... fifty babies are being cared for in the Infants' Home, while other organizations of American women have been busily engaged in sewing for the past two months, preparing gifts for children."
