Frank Gould was a philanthropist and the son of financier Jay Gould. Frank Jay was the owner of a string of French Riviera casinos and hotels, which he leased to a French syndicate. On December 1, 1901 he married Ethel Kelly and had two children. They divorced in 1908. The Wichita Daily Times, Wichita Falls, Texas, wrote: "Frank Jay Gould and his wife who was Ethel Kelly have separated and it is said Mrs. Gould has brought action looking for a legal separation. Jealousy on the part of Mr. Gould, due, it is said, to the homage paid Mrs. Gould, who is a beautiful woman, by other men." I really like this picture because the guys in that time all dressed similarly; None of the guys stand out, yet the women stand out because of their nice furs.

Looks like they drew on a photograph to emphasize/sharpen the shapes--you see that a lot in this collection.

Why would he want to capture the sad faces of his children? The little girls do not seem to be living a happy life. I feel that he should have dressed them differently to capture their unique identities.

If we can have a short descrption of each photo introduce the name of event and little background story about the people inside each photo that really is a good education to viewers today who did not know anything about 1900 in the world but can see the history being brought to life. The historical photos are valuable assets.

Helen Gould's home was Lyndhurst, at Tarrytown, NY, seen in this Bain Collection photo. The photo above appears to have been taken in the porte-cochère seen at right in the Lyndhurst photo. Frank Jay Gould (1877-1956) was Helen Gould's youngest brother. The Mrs. Gould in this photo is Frank's second wife, the former Edith Kelly, an actress he married in 1910. They were divorced in 1919.

Helen Gould's Home, that is a small size castle. It must be their dream house. Beautiful. People always has fantacy dreams about castle; especially castles in Europe with many mysterious or fancy stories happened in the castle.
