Found this article after I Googled Frank Gould: query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9506E3D91539E13AB... That's the first Mrs. Gould and the girls names are Helen & Dorothy.

Mrs. Frank Gould was the former Helen Margaret Kelly, daughter of Edward Kelly and granddaughter of banker Eugene Kelly. She was 18 years old when she married Frank Gould, youngest son of financier Jay Gould, on December 2nd, 1901. The wedding was reported in the New York Times the following day. They divorced in 1908, and the terms of the settlement were described in this New York Times article from May 11, 1909. Though Frank Gould was granted custody of his daughters for the greater part of each year, young Helen and Dorothy ended up spending most of that time with their aunt, Helen Gould, who became Mrs. Finley J. Shepard in 1913 (Times article.) The former Mrs. Frank Gould married twice more (that I can find), in 1910, to Ralph Thomas (d.1914), and in 1917 to Prince Houreddin (or Noureddin) Vlora of Albania, from whom she was divorced in 1922 (brief Times Article.) Daughters Helen and Dorothy both went on to marry Swiss Barons, and then divorce them according to a brief item in Time Magazine on February 18th, 1935. I've been unable to find what became of Helen after her divorce, but Dorothy was married again, to Basil Frederick Boothby, which got her cited in Burke's Peerage. She died in 1990.

Looks like they drew on a photograph to emphasize/sharpen the shapes--you see that a lot in this collection.

Why would he want to capture the sad faces of his children? The little girls do not seem to be living a happy life. I feel that he should have dressed them differently to capture their unique identities.

Yikes! Unfortunately they remind me of the twins in Kubrick's "The Shining". is.gd/ayf0

The children's names are Helen and Dorothy. See another photo and find out why they are so sad in the comments here: www.flickr.com/photos/library_of_congress/2449479844/ Their parents divorced and re-married, several times, and the kids ended up living with an aunt.
