F.B. Sayre (LOC)

Francis Bowes Sayre was born in 1885, two years before his bride, Jessie Woodrow Wilson, daughter of U. S. President Woodrow Wilson. Sayre was 28 when they were wed, on November 25, 1913. They had two sons and a daughter, all now deceased. She died in 1933, at 45; he in 1972, at 86. His Wikipedia page (not yet complete) shows yet another Bain/LOC photo of him at this desk, but facing the other way. That photo has not yet been posted on Flickr: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_B._Sayre. But this photo, nearly identical, has been posted: More photos of Sayre at the time of his engagement to Jessie Woodrow Wilson:

Wystan: thank you for your information about Sayre and for linking these two images.

The man is probably Francis B. Sayre (Wikipedia), whom she married in 1913. There's a fragment of his name backwards at the bottom of his picture. See also Williams College

For heaven's sake, LOC -- Two Question Marks! Y'all call yourself the Library of Congress, and you don't know that President Woodrow Wilson's elder daughter was named Jessie Woodrow?? And if she had been born male, she would have been Woodrow Wilson, Jr. She and Francis Bowes Sayre were wed on November 25, 1913. A couple of Bain/LOC photos of Sayre were posted here a week or two ago: And another shot of Sayre was posted by LOC on April 30, 2010:

That was done in Photoshop 0.3?

Logista and Wystan: Thanks identifying Sayre. We'll include it next time we update the source data.
