Mike Kelly Mike, thanks for adding this, it sort of completes the "circle". In tramway and railway circles (at this stage the tramways were administered by the Railways Department) it was called 'The Bridge Street Yard'.

It is an unusual photo to find in a personal album - perhaps the photographer was a tram enthusiast too! Probably about 1897, before electric trams. Australian National Maritime Museum on The Commons NB - NOT Bennelong / Fort Macquarie (see tags). Location NE corner of Bridge and Phillip Streets, where the Intercontinental Hotel now is.
