A vessel, probably MERKSWORTH, undergoing repairs in Fitzroy dry dock, Sydney c1896

I think it is not the 'Marksworth' but the 'MERKSWORTH' a coastal trader (not a tug). It had a collision with the ferry 'Manly' off Bradleys Head on 18/12/1896. Adelaide Advertiser 23/12/1896 - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/34568675 (the best of several contemporary newspaper articles). Hence repairs in dry dock (Sutherland Dock?). The 'Merksworth' was wrecked in 1898 off Stockton Beach - SMH 17/05/1898 - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/14147287

Swordscookie Ha! Fancy seeing you here swordscookie! Yes, I am all over these Australian 'mystery' photos like a rash, and need to get a life. They are almost laughably easy to find out about due to trove.nla.gov.au/ . The contemporary newspaper reports really give an extra dimension, or two. .

beachcomber australia Thank you again beachcomberaustralia for your tireless research. Trove is a fantastic resource and certainly does add a dimension to the photographs we may not have otherwise realised.
