Mrs. Gertrude Sheldon Sands, widow of Samuel Stevens Sands III, married Richard Whitney on May 27, 1916, in New York City. [1] Samuel Stevens Sands III, a son of Mrs. William K. Vanderbilt, Sr., was killed in an automobile accident in West Hampton, NY on July 2, 1913. They had been married less than three years (October 18, 1910). [2]   [The date "7/3/13" is written on the above negative – perhaps a publication date.] Richard Whitney (1888–1974) was an American financier. Whitney was president of the New York Stock Exchange 1930–1935, and a convicted embezzler.
"On April 12, 1938, six thousand people turned up at Grand Central Station to watch as a scion of the Wall Street Establishment was escorted in handcuffs by armed guards onto a train that delivered him to prison." [3]
Mrs. Gertrude Sheldon Sands Whitney, who once summered on a 400 acre estate in the Berkshires,[4] then moved into a farmhouse in Far Hills, New Jersey.

Pixel Wrangler: Thanks for the information and for spotting the date (dates on the negatives can be mysterious but likely do indicate when the photo was used). We'll add information to the description when we update it.

This would be in 1913 when her first husband died. I added her to Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gertrude_Sheldon_Sands
