This is amazing. I'm sure most of this is gone. It's such an even height over the different buildings. This just could not be a CBD in modern times.

The date is between 1880 and 1889; the first stage of the Colonial Secretary's building, in Bridge Street, was completed 1880; the Phillip Street extension (not present) was not started till 1890; the Metropole Hotel, cnr Bent and Phillip Streets (not present in this pic) opened 1890 …
