Can somebody explain why this is part of the National Archives?

Hi Mark in NOVA, In the 1970s, the Environmental Protection Agency commissioned freelance photographers to take photos of the environment, EPA activities, and general life in the United States. This project, called Documerica, took place from 1971-1977, and because they were records of the EPA, the National Archives now has these photos. You can see more interesting Documerica photos in our collection, or if you are particularly inspired, participate in the EPA's current photo project, State of the Environment! Thanks. It's too bad it wasn't shot using Kodachrome film. The color had deteriorated quite a bit.

As stated in the caption, USS Vestal (AR-4), would serve in both World Wars. Remarkably, she was moored alongside USS Arizona (BB-39), in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, during the Japanese sneak attack on the base and other military installations around Oahu. She and her crew performed admirably in the face of the attack and the utter destruction rained down upon her and Arizona.
