    Is that a Martello tower on the hill? If so, it narrows the potential locations down pretty thoroughly.

    Nigel Leyland Nigle, if you click on the Nli Ref: link above you can go to our catalogue and zoom into the photograph, I had a look and I would not call it a Martello tower, that said, I am wrong about 50% of the time!

    National Library of Ireland on The Commons You're right. There's a curtain wall and twin towers that look like a gatehouse to the right of the large circular tower. It's definitely a fortification of some sort.

    Keany is not a common name - the 1911 census shows only 3 people named Keany in County Dublin. Christopher Keany, 27, was an agricultural labourer, he and wife Alice are not a likely fit for this leafy suburb. I like Michael Keany, then 21, Electrical Engineer. He would be 52 in 1942.

    That Michael Keany is from Sligo - there are 67 Keanys in the 1911 census in Sligo.
