Wyper Brothers' Ironmongery Department, Bundaberg, 1898

Vesna Verencevic said:
MESSRS. WYPER BROS. This firm is direct importers from the manufacturers of Great Britain, Europe, America, India, China, and Japan, of all kinds of ironmongery, hardware, oils and colours, and furniture of every description. The business is the oldest of its kind in Bundaberg and the present proprietors have observed in turn the businesses of Messrs. J. F. Davies and Co., the pioneers of the hardware trade in the town, Messrs. Wolley, Bergin, and Co., Ltd., and others. The premises cover a a vast area of ground, and the stock includes every item generally known in the hardware trade. The retail departments, though spacious, only [?] [?] the extent of the stock [??????] one of the largest and most comprehensive of its kind in the State north of Bris- bane. Our illustrations will give some fair idea of the extent and variety of the retail stocked, while the bulk [?] heavily stocked with [?????????] wire, bar iron, galvanised iron, paints and colours, lubricator and other oils, pumps, windmills, farm machines, and agricultural implements. Messrs. Wyper Bros, carry on a large wholesale as well as a retail business about the district, and all the leading storekeepers, planters, sugar mills, farmers, and dairymen are among their customers. Buying for cash direct from the producer and in such quantities as to commend the most favourable prices, they are able to sell to their clients at the lowest market values, and are satisfied to compete with all comers in the hardware trade. Quality is the one point that receives this firm's utmost attention, and customers can depend upon such treatment as will convince them that no service is trouble. The firm holds some of the very, best agencies in the hardware trade, and has been in a position to pick and choose any really good agency that is readily offered to them. Amongst the other agencies which they hold are the following—Syracuse hand - and disc ploughs, Canton disc ploughs, Malthoid roofing, De Laval cream separators, Street's white ant cure, Southern Cross windmills, Rex and Albion stoves, and many other leading lines of a similar nature. The firm is large manufacturers of everything in the plumbing trade, tin- ware and ironware. They also manufacture and supply acetylene gas generators, steel travelling trunks, spouting, tanks of all sizes and descriptions, and similar lines. They are also large manufacturers of cabinet-ware, general furniture, and everything in the upholstery trade. Employing only expert workmen in all departments, the quality of their goods are their first study, believing as they do that a bad article is never cheap. It is impossible in a short article to adequately describe the extent of the stores, manufactories, and departments of this firm. They are able to supply or make to order any line required in the hardware trade and to guarantee their customer the fullest satisfaction.
