Crown Prince William of Germany was appointed colonel-in-chief of the English 11th Hussars in 1911. See www.nam.ac.uk/research/famous-units/11th-hussars-prince-a...
There had been an earlier 1st Hussars regiment in the King's German Legion of the British Army during the Napoleonic War, but I haven't found a 1st Hussars. Perhaps the postcard caption has a typo. -

shows this picture under the title "11th (Prince Albert's Own) Hussars" and has a note, "The postcard wrongly states that he's in the uniform of the "1st Hussars". " -

the youngest Prince also renounced all claim to the throne so he could marry below his station, which the former Kaiser forbade.

Copied by the Bain Agency from a German souvenir postcard. This appears to be a composite portrait of the three, each of whom was photographed separately. That would account for the shadow being on the right half of the Kaiser's face, while on the left half of his son's. And the kid is out of proportion to both of his elders.
