She was the sister ship of the famous commerce raider SMS Emden. While the Emden still had traditional triple-expansion engines, the Dresden was the first German cruiser to be equipped with the new Parsons turbines. She's one of the famous WWI ships involved in The Battle of the Falklands, surviving only because of her unique engines en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMS_Dresden_(1907)

There had been an earlier 1st Hussars regiment in the King's German Legion of the British Army during the Napoleonic War, but I haven't found a 1st Hussars. Perhaps the postcard caption has a typo.
