From Wikipedia Mary Garden (20 February 1874 - 3 January 1967), was an important Scottish soprano with a substantial career in France and America in the first third of the 20th century. She was described as "the Sarah Bernhardt of opera".

The NYT of April 30, 1913 query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9502E2DA1F3AE633A... says that Geraldine Farrar, Frances Alda, and Mary Garden all left on the same boat , the Kaiser Wilhelm II, for Europe. This group of photos were probably taken on the boat -- some are dated 4/29/13.

She took her first singing lessons in Chicago and studied afterwards with Trabadelo and Lucien Fugère in Paris. Sibyl Sanderson introduced her to Albert Carré, director of the Opéra-Comique, where she made her debut in the title role of Charpentier’s Louise in 1900.
