I've come back to this wonderful picture, that is truely evocative of ancient Rome. It's seems so idyllic and unspoilt by modern developments. More so, this was taken in an age before the motor-car! It saddens me to look at this picture and think the Colosseum later became a giant roundabout threatened by all that motor traffic to crumble into rubble. Thankfully, some years ago the area immediately around the structure has been pedestrianised and the constant traffic diverted away. Stuart.

The photo shows the ruins of the Meta Sudans (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meta_Sudans) which was demolished by Mussolini in 1936.

.Today nothing exist from the original photos.Now around the Colosseum there is a big road and place.All ather monuments was demolished in the 1936 by Mussolini.
