Do we know what street that's on? I'd love to see if there are any remaining remnants from this time.

Ahhh... okay... 15th and Wabash (from the wiki link above). South of Roosevelt, huh? hmmm... I'll have to wander around down there and see what I can find. Google says there's just a park there now called, "Coliseum Park."
  • Ryan (LOC P&P) said:
Ematu: According to the Chicago Park District website, the park was named in honor of the coliseum that had existed on a part of the site at East 14th and South Wabash Avenues. If you get over there, let us know if you find any remnants from the time.

Cal[ifornia] Delegation entering Coliseum (LOC)

  • Wystan said:
California's delegates may have been solid for Teddy Roosevelt (candidate for a non-consecutive third term) for the 1912 GOP nomination, but incumbent President William Howard Taft got the nod. Roosevelt, who had handpicked Taft as his successor but felt betrayed by the rightwing course Taft followed once in office, then bolted to the new Progressive Party, and became the "Bull Moose" candidate. The three-way split in the November election gave the win to Woodrow Wilson and the Democratic Party.
