SINGERS OF VATICAN HERE FOR CONCERTS "Four soloists from the Sistine Chapel Choir of the Vatican, Rome, including the only adult male soprano and male contralto in the choir, arrived yesterday for a four months' tour of this country. The tour was arranged by special permission of the Vatican and the Italian Government. "The soloists are Allesandro Gabrielli, soprano; Luigi Gentili, contralto; Ezio Cecchini, tenor, and Augusto Dos Santos, basso. Their accompanist is Albert Cammetti. Their tour, which has been arranged by a musical bureau, opens in Carnegie Hall, Sept. 14 [1919]. They have permission to be away from Rome until Jan. 1. They will give seventy-five concerts. "The coming of the Italian church singers is an event of great interest in musical circles, since it is the first appearance here of singers from the Sistine Choir. This choir is composed of thirty-two choral chaplains, whose special privilege it is to appear at the ecclesiastical functions at which the Pope appears in person. Some of the music which will be sung in America was written in the fourth century. – New York Times, Aug 20, 1919
