Unloading Rescue Boats

I doubt this photo was taken in Feb, 2012, probably 1972; the plane was disposed of in 1988. I was in Coast Guard in 1972 and stationed in Elizabeth City NC as was CG 1351 (the plane in the picture). CG 1351 was the first plane to be used on "Great Lakes Ice Patrol" (Project Icewarn, COAST GUARD/NASA/NOAA), in 1975; we flew out of Nasa's Lewis Research Center, Clevland Ohio.

Thanks for commenting. Yes, the photo is from Hurricane Agnes in 1972. The statement "This photo was taken on February 20, 2012 using a Nikon D800." is automatically added by Flickr from metadata describing when the scan was actually created (rather than the original image).

AL61A-038 Douglas RD-2 USCG-29 Adhara

Not sure, but I can't see serial 129 anywhere. However on the underside there are visible what looks like to me the digits 29 which was "Adhara's" initial serial with the Coast Guard when delivered in 1932. Stig

Adhara, name visible on the bow, was the only RD-2 in in USCG. In service from Jul32-Mar37, it carried at least 3 different serial numbers including 29, 129 and V111. I can't tell what it says under the hull either but there was only one Adhara.
