USS Wainwright (Destroyer No. 62/DD-62) was a Tucker-class destroyer built for the United States Navy prior to the American entry into World War I. The ship was the first U.S. Navy vessel named in honor of U.S. Navy officers Jonathan Wainwright, his cousin, Commander Richard Wainwright, and his son, Jonathan Wainwright, Jr..

Fantastic image. There's a rather nice Wikipedia entry here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Wainwright_(DD-62) Other than that...she was launched in 1915 and decommissioned in 1922. Then, from 1926 to 1934 she worked for the US Coastguard before returning to the Navy for a bit. Then, finally, in 1934, she was sold for scrapping.

Wainwright (launched the previous June in Camden, NJ, was commissioned on May 12, 1916, which may account for the presence of the photo at this point in the Bain collection. www.history.navy.mil/danfs/w1/wainwright-i.htm

Streetview shows the coastguard cottages are still there, but a lot of work on piers and jetties has happened since todays image.
