I saw those spires from the top of a 7A for eight years."The foundation stone of the present parish church was laid on the feast of the birth of St. John the Baptist, 24th June 1842 by Fr. Theobald Matthew OFM Cap., on a site donated by Lord Cloncurry (Valentine Lawless). It was opened for the use on 14th September 1845"
