Good Day....As most of the dome appears to be in place, this photo was PROBABLY taken CIRCA 1863.....A statue was placed on the "top" on 2 December 1863....HOWEVER, the actual COMPLETION date is most likely, January 1866 when the last scaffolding was removed from the INSIDE ...photos of the completed building taken "outside" are most likely 1864 and later...Dave

Thanks Harry, for providing more information about George Walbridge Perkins. The library has another photograph of him taken in Washington, D.C. around 1911. Do you think that is the Capitol building behind him and his daughter in this photograph? If so, it would mean that it was taken around the same time.

Dorothy died in 1990, at the age of 99, and had in 1960 given the Perkins family's huge estate in Riverdale, New York to the city.
