    Yes, they were chestnut for everyday. The ones for church or visiting were shiny patent leather or velvet. But we called all of them "buckle shoes".

    Nice to see this great photo. I hope you can post photos of other city bookshops. Tyrrells in George St at both locations would be great; I recall Bill Tyrrell donating his shop records to the Mitchell some years ago.
