They are wearing the insignia of the 32d "Red Arrow" division. The Sailor in the photograph is armed with an M1917 rifle. M1917 rifles were produced by Eddystone, Remington, and Winchester to supplement the M1903 rifles which were in short supply when the United States entered into World War II.
