That DMP man looks tired

Irish Independent, 6 May 1921, 3, has two other photos of the warehouse, with this caption: "Views of the ruined goods store of the British and Irish Steam Packet Co. at the North Wall, resulting from the fire following the destruction by armed men of motor tyres consigned to the military. Hundreds of tyres (picture on left) were destroyed." The second photo shows a DMP man, possibly the same one pictured here. Wrongly identified on this period card as an Aviator biplane. In fact it is a captured D.F.W. B.I on an exposition of captured German war material held during 1915 in the Musee de l'Armée at the Dôme des Invalides in Paris. I have by the way same card in my collection. Look at

A Rumpler B.I in a hangar. Serial on the rudder gives B 478/14 which makes it as one from a batch of 18 ordered in 1914 (hence the /1914) with the serials (Bestellnummer) B 470/14 - B 487/14. Beware that all German identifications given out by the German army were with Roman numerals, so no B.1 but B.I. The biplane parked behind this Rumpler needs some more research to identify. Characteristic wing structure with diagonal struts.

The biplane behind looks much like a Flugwerk Deutschland (Aachen , München) Doppeldecker ...

A rather special Fokker M 7. This machine started with the German army Fliegertruppe and got serial number B 504/14 (Fokker Werke Number 101). Incidentally the Fokker M 7 was identified as the Fokker B.I when they were bought by the army. This machine (B 504/14) was 'confiscated' by the German Navy on 5 August 1914 and this sample got the (temporarily) identity '101' (the Fokker Works number) followed by the station name [Kiel]. On 3 March 1915 the machine was re-serialled as S 24, meaning it was School / Training machine No.24.
