I was excited there for a minute because I thought this was going to be SS König Albert, a liner commissioned in 1899. It carried my wife's great-great grandfather back from Italy with his new wife in 1908. But that's a different ship.

She was the sister ship of the famous commerce raider SMS Emden. While the Emden still had traditional triple-expansion engines, the Dresden was the first German cruiser to be equipped with the new Parsons turbines. A rather special Fokker M 7. This machine started with the German army Fliegertruppe and got serial number B 504/14 (Fokker Werke Number 101). Incidentally the Fokker M 7 was identified as the Fokker B.I when they were bought by the army. This machine (B 504/14) was 'confiscated' by the German Navy on 5 August 1914 and this sample got the (temporarily) identity '101' (the Fokker Works number) followed by the station name [Kiel]. On 3 March 1915 the machine was re-serialled as S 24, meaning it was School / Training machine No.24.
