Aha! After a fair amount of research, I figured out exactly where the shop is. Looks like the original building is still standing (satellite photo).

Again, shop is not at Proviso and is therefore in Chicago rather than Melrose Park.

The "giant hammer" tagged by "Shmoovio (Jarrett)" looks like a pulley lift with a big hook.

Intriguing image. How times have changed. Looks like someone spent some time putting that display together. The assembly appears to show basic process of asbestos manufacturing, from mining and milling to material production. Display also demonstrates an interesting variety of vintage asbestos materials. Curious to see "JM" (Johns-Manville) branding on some of the project materials and such unique samples, too; wonder if the student was somehow related to a JM employee?

Ah, the miracle material of the day.

Takes me back to that amazing epoch ! Perhaps we can do without the asbestos - in retrospect of course.
