Navigation was open only a few months. The steamer Seattle is rushing to unload her cargo, on Oct. 21, 1918, before the ice blocks her passage home." I don't think that this is the USS Seattle (1916-1946) - the former USS Washington - it looks quite different (and she brought back "doughboys" from France at that time, s. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Washington_(ACR-11)).
