"The Albury Post Office was constructed on the site of the original telegraph station in 1878-80, to a design by James Barnet." from - www.environment.gov.au/cgi-bin/ahdb/search.pl?mode=place_... The same article goes on about the clock tower being added in the 1920s, but it seems to be very much in evidence in this photo above. "According to the NSW Heritage Register entry, the clock tower was added during the 1920s. Other sources including Fiddian and Warmington and Ward variously date the tower structure as being as early as 1913. However, a number of early photographs dated c. 1900 and c. 1906 show the building with the tower already constructed in its present form." This photo proves the clock tower was part of James Barnet's original design and construction, as for many of his Post Offices. Current view with additions to the left www.environment.gov.au/cgi-bin/heritage/photodb/imagesear...

beachcomber australia Thanks for your research into this one; from those links you provided it certainly seems like the addition of the clock tower was a bit of a mystery. As you say, this photo, dated 1880, shows it must have been part of the original design. AB
