a portrait of Admiral David Beatty. Quite popular and with distinct flare, he was also impetuous and over-eager.He made some critical mistakes at the battle of Jutland that may have kept the British from routing the Germans.

But there were clearly prints made too. See www.npg.org.uk/collections/search/portraitLarge/mw122881/... I think the Bain photo may have been of a print rather than the oil painting.

Sir David felt he was special, as can be seen his his using 6 buttons on his coat instead of the normal 8, and the tilt of his cap. Much had been written about him, a charismatic and controversial man with some well documented personal failings and prejudices and some critical mistakes during the Battles of Dogger Bank and Jutland.
