The black arm band on the Indians' uniforms was worn in memory of former teammate Ray Chapman (1891-1920), who died earlier in the 1920 baseball season in August after being struck in the head by a pitch thrown by Yankees' pitcher Carl Mays during a game at the Polo Grounds. Chapman remains the only player to die as a result of an in-game injury suffered during a Major League Baseball game. If the date is right this was the opening game of the World Series. The game was won by Cleveland over Brooklyn, 3-1 and went on to take the Series.
