Hi Howard33, No, they really are store guides for what used to be the largest department store in Sydney, Anthony Hordern's. If you follow the link to the photographic collection above you can enlarge this photo (on the 2nd page of images) and see that their badges say 'store guide'. You'll also find other images of the activities in and around Anthony Hordern's, including annual sports days. physical culture classes, balls and the crowning of 'Miss Hordernia'. Life as a department store worker has certainly changed in the last 70 years or so!

Jack Brown was a formidable player in his day and also a great contributor to golf in Queensland. "Runner-up in -the B Grade was John Brown. John has been featured in golf notes a few times now and I think I mentioned in these notes from a week or so ago that this chap had real golf style and practice will make a stylish golfer of him." This is probably February 1913. A group of women walked from Newark, NJ to join the Suffrage Pageant and Procession on March 3, 1914 before Woodrow Wilson Inauguration. The Women's Suffrage Pilgrimage from New York City to Washington, D.C., was timed to arrive in the capital on March 3, 1913 -- the day before the inauguration of U. S. President Woodrow Wilson. The ladies (and gentleman supporters) managed to leverage a good dose of publicity from all the attention focused on inaugural events. Perhaps Mrs. James Cunningham Bishop, the former Miss Abigail Hancock. Married in 1891, she divorced him in 1913. See query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9907E4D6123BE633A... It was clearly a very public divorce. But I'm not sure that could be the context for this picture.
