According to Wikipedia there was a "Wendy the Welder" descriptor/archetype, but like Wikipedia tends to do, there's no supporting information.

I met Wendy when she was volunteering on board the SS Jeremiah O'Brien back in the 80s she signed a postcard version of he poster for my niece. There were more welders than riveters in WWII.

Welder at the C & NW RR locomotive shops, 40th Street shops, Chicago, Ill. (LOC)

Proviso and 40th St. were two different yards. This is Proviso, this is 40th St. The locomotive shop is now in use by Union Pacific and referred to as M19-A.
  • iris.schimandle said:
See here for a 1983 photo of the shop and explanation of its location.
  • The Library of Congress said:
iris.schimandle: Thanks for the correction! We've updated all 19 affected records in our own catalog ( http://www.loc.gov/rr/print/catalog.html), and the information will be updated in Flickr soon, too.
