On 26 May 1915, TEXAS responded to an emergency call to rescue passengers aboard the damaged Holland-American ship RYNDAM (RIJNDAM in Dutch). The RYNDAM and the Norwegian steam JOESPH J CUNEO collided in a dense fog off Nantucket Shoals, off the Rhode Island shore. Racing through the fog with the SOUTH CAROLINA, the ships arrived at the location and rescued 230 passengers. Bain got the name wrong. It was never known as the Ryndham, just Ryndam or Rijndam.

"The battleship Texas today received a solid silver model of an anclent warship, the gift being from the Holland-American line in appreciation of the rescue of passengers and crew from the steamship Ryndam, which was in a collision with the steamship Joseph Cuneo near Nantucket lightship last May.

The warship model whlch stands four feet high, is that of the Zeven Provlncien, the flagship of Admiral DeRuyter, famed in the history of the seventeenth century."
