Looks like they are traveling up Broadway. Trinity Church (Episcopal) is on the right.

The Empire building was built on the site of the Arcade Blg., where on December 4th, 1891 Henry L. Norcross ,a Boston broker entered the office of Russell Sage the multimillionare moneylender demanding a huge sum of money, threatening to blow everyone up. Sage pushed his $20 a week clerk named Laidlaw at the extortionist and made a dash for the door. Norcross dropped the ten lbs. of dynamite , blowing himself up, killing a bystander and injuring several others. Laidlaw sued Sage, won a $40,000 judgement after a lengthy court battle. However, Sage appealed the decision against him. In the end Laidlaw received nothing.

Could the presence of the telephone pole (if that's what it is) help date this image more specifically?

[Cathedral] Episcopal Trinity - Coronation Ceremony (LOC)

  • Michael Daddino said:
This is New York City's Trinity Church (Richard Upjohn, 1846). Excuse the self-linking, but here's a panorama showing the modern interior.

"Coronation" ceremony? In an Episcopal cathedral? I doubt it. Might have been an ordination or bishop's investiture.

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Anglican, and we'd love to have this added to the group!
  • Greg said:
Yes, stefkagoil, certainly not a coronation. Possibly a celebration ceremony for the coronation of George V, June 1911.
