    Mike Kelly I agree, that's the most likely stretch of road but I cannot yet see any absolute identifying points of comparison between the old photo and the modern view. If someone has a 1940s Sands directory and could please look up the address of F. Perkins, Grocer, Double Bay it would be most helpful.

    One thing you can see, is that the road is curved, but the curbing on the right side has a dead straight section. You can see this on google earth.

    Glad you came West to start the New Year. Great photo. The old tram operated between 1879 and 1918 when a shortage of horses and changing times finished it off. Many thanks for all the photos you brought us last year and looking forward to your choices for this year. The photo features what John B Keane regarded as one of the outstanding features of Irish towns in days gone by, the corner boys.
