Mulatto, which has its roots in the word 'mule'--the sterile offspring of a male ass and a mare--is a horrible word, that is associated to people of color. No one should allow themselves to be call a mulatto.

The title is from the original 1940's caption from the photographer. While 'Mulatto' is offensive to us, back then it was the everyday term for people of mixed race. Thank goodness we have progressed a little.

This is quite a scenery to look at. Along the Mississippi River levee this image really contradicts 'The Great Depression'.

Looks like corn being cultivated near the house, but it is only knee high. The grass on the levee looks parched and the area is short on moisture and rainfall. Congressman William Jefferson of New Orleans was born near this time and place.

From the clouds I'd swear it was HDR if it wasn't LOC and 1940. Must have used a yellow filter. Kodachrome was only four years old.
