  I suspect this pic was taken on 7th October, 1916, at the official opening of Taronga Park Zoo. The chap carrying the cane might be NSW Premier Bill Holman, who performed the official opening...but it's difficult to be certain at this resolution. The chap wearing the bowler hat might be Fred Flowers, President of the Legislative Council and Chairman of the Taronga Park Trust...or maybe Sydney Lord Mayor Dick Meagher, who was also at the official opening.   A truly historical image, even though as a child (1950s) I can recall visiting Taronga Zoo, and doing just that. Riding the elephant, seems so barbaric to consider such a ride now.
