Telamacatl, del Nahuatl= rueda de piedra. LA PIEDRA DE TÍZOC REPRESENTA LAS VICTORIAS DEL EMPERADOR Y FIESTAS DEDICADAS AL DIOS DEL FUEGO. Era un CUAUHXICALLI, sobre ella se ejecutaba el sacrificio del ejercicio gladiatorio; la víctima, atada sobre la piedra, con armas de plumas, debía defenderse de cuatro que le atacaban con armas de pedernal. La superficide lateral tiene una secuencia de 15 escenas, cada una conformada por un guerrero sometiendo a una deidad que personifica al señorío particularizado con un glifo toponímico. La secuencia está limitada por dos bandas horizontales, una arriba y otra abajo, que figuran respectivamente un cielo nocturno y un reptil terrestre. En forma desconcertante y como seña distintiva, una concavidad central y un profundo canal dañan la labra de la escultura, rompiendo en forma radial el disco solar de la cara superior y una de las escenas de conquista de la cara lateral. It's hot and cramped on the light plane, but the flight is smooth, and as we begin to descend we peer out the window, to marvel at the view and take pictures with our phones. It's worth it. The view of Palm Island from the air is stunning. Clear blue water and green hills of tropical rainforest. The island is off the north Queensland coast, just a 20-minute flight from Townsville. Indigenous people first began living on Palm Island in 1918, when it was set up as a mission. For years, Aborigines were sent there from across Australia. They came from different tribes and places, spoke different languages, and had different customs. Now, nearly 100 years after it was first established, more than four thousand people live on the Island. Palm Islanders are known as the 'Bwgcolman People', meaning 'many tribes, one people.
