  NC-12A Defender, christened August 30, 1929, was a twin-motored ship of 180,000 cubic feet with two 165 h. p. Wright Whirlwind motors. However, it also alternated these on occasion with two 225 h. p. Packard Diesels. It was 184 feet in length, 44 feet in diameter, 330 gal. fuel capacity, speed was 62 mph.
