Although the photo is inscribed "Lieut. Rosendahl," it is likely that inscribed rank is incorrect. Given the time period of this collection of photos, and historical US Navy photos of Charles E. Rosendahl (USN) in the control car of USS Akron (ZRS-4), it is likely that he actually held the rank of Lieutenant Commander when this photo was taken. Rosendahl was an advocate of lighter than air (LTA) flight. He not only served as a US Navy observer aboard the German airship Hindenburg (LZ-129), but he was also the commander of Naval Air Station Lakehurst when the Hindenburg exploded and crashed there on May 6, 1937. Apparently a photo taken during the construction of either the USS Macon or USS Akron at the Goodyear Airdock in Akron, Ohio. The Goodyear Blimp in the foreground is the Goodyear Blimp Vigilant (NC-11A) a Goodyear Type TZ blimp. Vigilant would be re-christened Goodyear Blimp Columbia in July 1931.
